this girl is a proud foodie. i love to cook, eat, drink and share all these experiences with people who enjoy the same. at different stages of my life, i crave and design totally different things. i wholeheartedly believe at my intense love for food translates into my obsession with lotions, perfumes, candles, oils.... and all things beautifully stinky.
i'm currently involved with pho. my single complaint about pho, is that i have to sit in uncomfortably flourescent venues, with little ambiance, fake flower arrangements and tasteless decor. aside from those criticisms... i'm in love.
first... the menu. depending on where you go, you may understand a little on the menu, or nothing at all. rare steak, tendon, tripe, brisket, well-done flank, beef balls... a vegan's delight. any one or all of these come swimming in a fragrant bowl of broth and perfectly cooked rice noodles. alongside your bowl of pho comes a heaping plate of thai basil, bean sprouts, limes, and thinly sliced jalapenos...but wait, there's more. flanking the table is fish sauce, shiracha, soy sauce, and some devil-spawned asian hot sauce, that even i go gingerly on.
next...your utensils. chopsticks, soup spoons and forks. you will need all three. the broth must be ladled from bowl to lip, the chopsticks have to be used because they are chopsticks, and the fork comes in handy when your sticks can't get every last noodle. pho is not just a meal, it's an experience. you will skip out with a warm tummy and only a few less dollars in your wallet. these are a few of my favorite pho spots in san diego, if you want to comment and add some more, i'd love that.
