binky rehab...

yes, I'm the Mom who swore up and down that she would never give her kids a pacifier. Here I am, with a son who will be turning 3 in September and is still horribly addicted to his binky. It's like a bad habit- he's only allowed to have it at night and during naps. I'm not about to let him have it in public- because then I would have to face the judgment of other Moms and Grandparents alike, right? Can't we just keep it our dirty little secret? Is there something so wrong about having a pacifier when you're twelve?

In the next couple months we have decided to send Nash to binky rehab. There will be night sweats, terrors, screaming, fits and most likely many, many tears. It must be done...
We can tie it to a balloon and send it away, we can trade him for a really cool toy, we can cut the tips off so they lose their "suck" appeal, hide them, burn them, trash them. No matter how you chalk it up, it won't be pretty.

wish us luck.... and if you have suggestions, send them.

  1. You know, I thought it was going to be really hard to wean Owen from nursing (he was 17-months and loved it) but it turned out to not be bad at all. I started gradually but it went so well that we were done within four or five days.
If he's doing it during naps and bedtime maybe you could start with taking it away at naps first. Then once that is done start the night time.
I wonder what is in the literature about pacifier use to a certain age. I'm going to look.
    Good luck!
